Getting started
How do I create my first gallery?

After logging in to your dashboard, click New project. Give your project a title, add a cover photo (optional), and set a date. Click Create and you'll be taken straight to the builder.

In the builder, upload your photos and arrange them into sections. When you're happy, copy the client link from the top of the page and send it to your client.

Do my clients need to create an account?

No. Your clients receive a link and can open the gallery directly in their browser — no account, no app, no sign-up required. This keeps the experience frictionless for them.

If you've added a password to the gallery, they'll need to enter that once.

How long does it take to set up a gallery?

Most photographers have their first gallery ready to send in under 5 minutes. Once you've uploaded your photos, arranging them and adding a cover takes just a few clicks. Upload speed depends on your internet connection and the number of photos.

Is there a limit on how many projects I can create?

No limit on the number of projects. The only limit on the free plan is 5 GB of total storage across all your projects. Paid plans with more storage are coming soon.

Client galleries
How does my client view their gallery?

Send your client the gallery link from your dashboard. They click it and the gallery opens immediately in their browser. It works on desktop, tablet, and mobile — no app needed.

The gallery shows your photos in the order you've arranged them, with any section headings and text you've added.

Can I password-protect a gallery?

Yes. In the project settings, you can set a password that clients must enter before viewing the gallery. Only people who know the password can access it.

This is useful for keeping galleries truly private, especially when sharing with multiple family members who might forward the link.

Can I set a limit on how many photos a client can select?

Yes. When creating or editing a project, you'll find a Selection limit option. Enable it and set the maximum number of photos your client can choose. They'll see a counter while selecting.

If you leave this off, clients can select and download all photos.

Can I see which photos my client has selected?

Yes. In your dashboard, open the project and go to the Selections tab. You'll see which photos your client has marked as favourites.

Can I share the same gallery with multiple clients?

Yes — the gallery link can be shared with as many people as you want. Each person who clicks the link will see the same gallery. If you need separate galleries for different clients, simply create separate projects.

Can I add videos to my gallery?

Yes. Add a video block in the builder and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link. The video appears neatly embedded among your photos.

Uploading your own video files (like clips straight from your camera) is on our roadmap — for now, embedding via YouTube or Vimeo works best.

Can clients leave comments on photos?

Yes. Once a client marks a photo as a favourite, they can add a short comment to it — handy for things like "this one for the album" or "please in black and white". You'll see these comments in the Selections tab of your project.

Photo delivery
How do clients download their photos?

Clients browse the gallery and tap the heart or checkmark icon on the photos they want. Once they've made their selection, a Download selected button appears. They click it and their chosen photos are downloaded directly to their device.

If no selection limit is set, they can also download all photos at once.

Are photos compressed when clients download them?

No. Clients download the photos at the full resolution you uploaded. We don't recompress or resize images on download.

Note: when you upload photos, Pictual creates a web-optimised preview version for fast gallery browsing. The downloadable version is always your original quality.

Can I deliver photos without letting clients download them?

This feature is on our roadmap. Currently, galleries always allow downloads. For now, you can work around this by uploading web-resolution versions of your photos if you want to share a preview before delivering full-resolution files.

Does the gallery link expire?

No. Unlike WeTransfer, Pictual gallery links do not expire. Your clients can return to their gallery weeks, months, or years later. The gallery remains accessible as long as your account is active.

Branding
How do I add my logo to the gallery?

Go to Profile in the navigation and upload your logo under Your Logo. We recommend a PNG file with a transparent background. Once saved, your logo will appear on all your galleries automatically.

Can I customise the look of my gallery?

Yes. In the builder, you can choose layout styles for each section, add cover images, set section headings, and add text blocks. Your logo and brand colours are applied to the gallery automatically based on your profile settings.

More customisation options (colour themes, custom fonts) are on our roadmap.

Can I add a watermark to my photos?

Yes. Go to Profile and find the Watermark section. You can add a text watermark (e.g. your company name) or use your logo as a watermark. Set the position (bottom right, centre, or tiled) and adjust the opacity.

Watermarks are applied to the preview images in the gallery. Downloaded photos do not carry the watermark unless you've uploaded watermarked versions.

Storage & files
How much storage do I get for free?

The free plan includes 5 GB of cloud storage. This is shared across all your projects. You can see how much you've used in your Profile settings.

5 GB is typically enough for several large projects or dozens of portrait sessions. Paid plans with expanded storage are coming soon.

What file formats can I upload?

Pictual supports JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF files. For best results, upload JPEG files at your editing resolution — we'll create a web-optimised version automatically for fast gallery loading.

RAW files (CR2, NEF, ARW, etc.) are not currently supported. Please export to JPEG before uploading.

Where are my photos stored?

Your photos are stored with IDrive e2, in a data center within the EU, with global CDN delivery for fast loading wherever your client is.

How do I delete a project and free up storage?

Open the project in your dashboard, go to project settings, and click Delete project. This permanently removes the project and all associated photos from your storage. Your storage quota will be updated accordingly.

This action cannot be undone. Make sure you have local copies of any photos you want to keep before deleting.

Account & security
How do I change my password?

Go to the login page and click Forgot password?. Enter your email address and we'll send you a reset link. You can also contact us at info@pictual.nl if you need further help.

How do I delete my account?

Send an email to info@pictual.nl with the subject line "Delete my account" from your registered email address. We'll permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days, in line with our privacy policy.

Is my data and my clients' data secure?

Yes. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Photos are stored with IDrive e2 with private access — gallery URLs are unique and not guessable. You can also add password protection to any gallery for an extra layer of security.

We don't sell or share your data with third parties. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.

Technical
Which browsers are supported?

Pictual works in all modern browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend keeping your browser up to date for the best experience. Internet Explorer is not supported.

Does Pictual work on mobile?

Yes. Both the builder (for photographers) and the gallery (for clients) are fully responsive and work on phones and tablets. Clients can browse, select, and download photos entirely from their mobile device.

Why is my photo upload failing?

Common causes:

  • File format: Make sure you're uploading JPEG, PNG, or WebP files — RAW formats are not supported.
  • File size: Very large files (over 50 MB per image) may time out on slow connections. Try exporting at a slightly lower resolution.
  • Storage limit: Check your storage usage in Profile settings. If you've reached 5 GB, delete older projects first.
  • Browser: Try a different browser or clear your cache.

If the problem persists, email us at info@pictual.nl with details of what you're seeing.

My client says they can't open the gallery. What should I check?

First, check that you've sent them the correct link from your dashboard. Then:

  • If the gallery is password-protected, make sure you've also sent them the password.
  • Ask them to try opening the link in a different browser or on a different device.
  • Make sure the project hasn't been accidentally deleted from your dashboard.

If none of these help, contact us at info@pictual.nl.
